Episode 047: Menstruation & The Moonlodge The Wise Woman Way
In ancient times, in certain cultures, women had a sacred place they could go during menstruation. Inside the Moonlodge, women of all ages would come together to support menstruating women. Crones, those who no longer bled, were there to share their wisdom, while the younger girls went out to carry water, gather herbs, and collect firewood.
It’s a sacred place where women came together as a community to support each other, tell stories, and retreat from the bustle of the world during menstruation. In a world where menstruation is taboo and hidden from view while we pretend it’s just like any other day. Many women experience discomfort during menstruation.
My special guest, Susun Weed suggests that it’s the body’s way of inviting us to slow down, tune in, and take time out from the world. Susun shares stories of the Moonlodge, White Buffalo Calf Woman, and woven throughout her stories are nuggets of wisdom girls and women can use to ease menstruation and celebrate her moon time.
